Vintage Christmas Ornaments
In the mid-20th century, the family Christmas tree was often adorned with dozens of those shiny, thin glass ornaments, such as those manufactured by Shiny Brite. One special type of glass ornament, the indent (named for its concave shape) has it's own following among collectors. But there were many other types of ornaments too.
During World War II, metals and silvering were reserved for the war effort, so ornaments from this era were clear glass with characteristic paper tops, usually with flowers or designs painted on them. Handcrafted ornaments also were popular around this time.
Atop the typical 20th century Christmas tree you would always find one of the many ornate tree toppers. No vintage Christmas tree would be considered fully decorated without being draped in strands of tinsel and fanciful garlands.
